Why I’m Circling Back to Health—And What This Blog Is All About

Hi friends,

Welcome to Circling Back to Health. I’m Dr. Juan Carlos Venis—a family doctor, advocate, and founder of INcircle Health—and I’m so glad you’re here.

This blog is a space to reflect on what it really means to care for our health in a way that honors the whole person. Not just treating symptoms or chasing numbers, but truly understanding ourselves—our goals, habits, stressors, and stories. I’ve come to believe that health isn’t a destination we arrive at; it’s something we circle back to, again and again, with curiosity, compassion, and intention.

That belief isn’t just professional—it’s personal.

Recently, I caught up with a physical therapist colleague who reminded me just how far I’ve come. For years, I avoided weight training because of a shoulder injury that left me discouraged and unsure of how to move forward. But eventually, I reached out for help—from a sports medicine doctor, this physical therapist, and even a personal trainer. Step by step, I rehabbed the injury, rebuilt strength, and perhaps most importantly, overcame the self-doubt that kept me from trying.

That experience helped reshape my relationship with movement, and it reminded me how powerful it can be to ask for help, take small steps, and believe that change is possible.

Just yesterday, I went on my first run in weeks. It wasn’t perfect—my pace was slower, and I had to take breaks to walk periodically—but it was a run. During it, I listened to Coach Bennett from Nike Running, who said something that stuck with me: “It ain't going to be perfect. And that's okay.” He also reminded that each time we arrive at a starting line, we should reflect on how far we have come to get there.

That simple reminder helped me let go of expectations and just be present. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up.

That journey is a big part of why I started INcircle Health: to create a space where patients feel seen, supported, and empowered at every stage. A place where care is rooted in relationships, not rushed visits. Where we look at the whole picture, not just the lab results.

Through this blog, I’ll share reflections, health tips, and practical tools to help you tune into your own wellness journey—wherever you are in the process. My hope is that you’ll feel encouraged, informed, and maybe even inspired to circle back to the parts of your health that matter most to you.

Thanks for reading. I’m excited to be on this path with you. Oh, and GO PACERS!

In health and community,

Dr. Venis

YES ‘CERS!

This last weekend I was fortunate to score a nosebleed ticket to watch the Pacers win the Eastern Conference Championship. It was electric and reminded me how much I love Indy. NBA Finals, here we come!
